5 Things: MTO Mural Announcement Today
Plans for the future of artist MTO's mural on Tube Dude plant will be discussed today at noon.
1. Another Sarasota Chalk Festival storyline will soon come to a close as Scott Gerber of Tube Dude and Denise Kowal from the Sarasota Chalk Festival, along with city officials and dignitaries will discuss plans today at noon for the MTO Mural and the Rosemary District neighborhood around the Tube Dude plant.
The city had sent a letter to Gerber requesting the mural be removed, but he had told Patch he objects. Patch also profiled the man's hands who were used for inspiration on the mural, and suffice to say, he's not a gangster.

2.Florida Studio Theatre is holding auditions for a new youth performance troupe on Feb. 16 and 20 in its professional rehearsal studios in downtown Sarasota, 1241 N. Palm Avenue. Pre-teens and teens ages 10 to 17 interested in joining the performance troupe, called Full-Swing, must make an appointment by calling (941) 366-1350.
Full-Swing is a brand new performance-based troupe designed to give pre-teens and teens a "rigorous and thorough understanding of the process of mounting a show through rehearsals and several performance opportunities throughout the community," according to the theatre. Under the direction of Beth Duda, the troupe will be led by local professional actress Natalia Mock. Mock is also a theatre teacher at Booker High School ’s VPA program, and a teaching artist and choreographer for FST.
3. The 28th annual Greek Glendi continues at 11 a.m. at St. Barbara's Greek Orthodox Church on the corner of North Lockwood Ridge and Tellevast roads. Don't miss the fabulous food, music and dancing. There is also a play area for children and church tours for those interested in art and architecture. The event runs 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, Saturday and from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $4. Children under 12 are free.
4. Mark your calendars for Feb. 23 for what will probably a colorful exchange at a public forum about Sarasota's Parking Service Management Department considering Monday's protest against meters. The open forum runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Selby Library. Parking is available for free at the library.
5. Also the excitement is building for baseball in Sarasota. We are just nine days away from Pitchers and Catchers Day — the first workout of Orioles Spring Training this year. Workouts begin at 9:15 a.m. to about 12:30 p.m. at Ed Smith Stadium. Practices are free and open to the public.
