5 Things: Olivia Newton-John in Sarasota Monday

Singer-actress Olivia Newton John will talk at The Ritz-Carlton on Monday about breast and gynecologic cancer research.

1. Olivia Newton-John will be at the helm of a microphone in Sarasota Monday, but instead of singing, this time she'll address breast and gynecologic cancer awareness.

 Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation will host the 13th Annual Sarasota Women’s Cancer Awareness Luncheon at noon March 19 at .   Singer-songwriter and breast cancer survivor Olivia Newton-John will be the keynote speaker for the event benefiting breast and gynecologic cancer research.  Newton-John, a member of Moffitt’s national Board of Advisors, advocates for early detection and encourages women to take an active role in their breast health. Tickets are $125 each; sponsorships start at $1,000. Call Sue Bliss at (813) 745-4860 to purchase tickets or receive sponsorship information, or visit www.insidemoffitt.com/sarasota-luncheon.htm. 2. The Sarasota County Fair starts today! New this year is the Galaxy Girl show and four new rides including the Space Roller. There's also a sea lion splash, a tiger show, bands, karaoke, pig races and more!

All the action happens at the  and Robarts Arena. The annual Sarasota County Fair starts Friday and runs through March 25. Gate admission is free Monday through Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. Otherwise it's $8 for adults, $4 for seniors 55 and up, children 6-17 and active military. Children 5 and under are free. Opening day is from 2 to 11 p.m., then noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday. Check out all of the events at https://sarasotafair.com.

March is Florida Archaeology Month and you can see all sorts of events listed around the state.

Check out the Sarasota event on March 17 at  Archaeology Lab from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. featuring "hands-on activities, demonstrations, tours, lectures, films; and free hot dogs and lemonade."
