5 Things to do in Sarasota This Weekend

Each week Sarasota Patch will give you a heads up on five events worth checking out this weekend.

1. Memorial Day Parade: From 10am - noon on Monday Sarasota will honor fallen veteran's in Downtown Sarasota on Memorial Day. The Memorial Day parade begins on Osprey and Main then continues to where a ceremony will conclude the events. 

2. HuB Day: Celebrating up and coming artists in Sarasota, HuB Day takes place from 6 - 11pm Friday at the HuB, 1413 Boulevard of Arts. Admission is $10. HuB and Blue Strategy+Creative will have their doors opened to the public, with live music from local electro-hip hop acts, Break Fixx and Abnorml Injustice performing at each respective location. Accompanying the music will be an art show featuring the work of local artists such as Tube-DudeMax Visions, and Pablo Rojas Visual Concepts, and others.

3. Myakka Blues Festival: On Saturday at Myakka park will be the first annual Myakka Blues Festival. Damon Fowler and Sarasota Slim headline what will be an annual event on the shores of Myakka River at Snook Haven, from 1 - 10pm. Also appearing are the Walker Smith Band and Andre Lewis. Gates open at 10am.

4. Sammy's Run: The third annual , a family event that supports Oak Park School and the Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation, will take place this Saturday at the school. The event starts at 7:15am with a 5k race through the Bent Tree neighborhood, followed by a 1-mile “wheelchair- and stroller-friendly” race at 8am on school grounds and “kid’s dashes” at 8:30am, specially designed for children with disabilities. Registration is $35 per person or $60 per family; online registration at www.sammysrun.com is encouraged.

5. Disc Golf Tournament: This weekend the 15th annual Sarasota Disc Golf tournament is taking place. It is a Fabulous Florida Tour & Tour Del sol Showcase Event & PDGA 'B; Tier Amateur Disc Golf Tournament. There will be two rounds Saturday at and two rounds Sunday at. Field limited to 90 players Pre-registration only at pdgasignup.com.  Proceeds benefit All Faiths Food Bank.
