City Installs 5 Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

The electric charging stations will be available for use Thursday.

Electric car owners will have some new places to power up in Sarasota.

Five electric vehicle charging stations will available for use, with one starting at the end of Thursday.

City of Sarasota crews began installing one station in the southwest corner of the parking lot, according to the city. The other four will be installed shortly afterward. 

The five charging stations will be located in three parking lots:

·         1 unit  – City Hall Parking Lot

·         2 units – St. Armands South Parking Lot

·         2 units – Bayfront Park Parking Lot (near Flying Fish Fleet)

The stations will be introduced as a free service to the public. The two located at Bayfront Park will have a three hour time limit, consistent with parking regulations in that lot. 

The charging stations are being installed by Florida Power & Light at no cost to the City of Sarasota, as provided for in the Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Energy Sustainability Agreement, which was established with the 30 year franchise agreement between the City and FPL.
