Police: Red Light Camera Video Helped Solve Sarasota Crash

Without the video, Sarasota Police say they wouldn't have been able to determine who was at fault in a traffic crash last week.

Sarasota Police are crediting a red light camera video with helping them to determine who was at fault in a two-car crash last week.

The video shows the driver of a truck running a red light and smashing into another car May 28 as it makes a turn at the intersection of Lockwood Ridge and Fruitville roads. The truck's driver was issued a citation.

According to officers, the truck ran the red light to cause the crash, but no witnesses could determine who was at fault. The driver of the truck blamed the vehicle for pulling in front of him, police said.

"Due to the red light camera video, it’s clear the truck violated the red light," police spokesperson Genevieve Judge said in a media release. "Without this video, the case would not have been solved or cleared."
