    Tampa downtown, right in the middle of the downtown have food trucks lined up during lunch. We can do it here also!

    As manager of Ringling Picnic, I can tell you my opinion that food trucks very much help the economy by allowing entrepreneurs a way to start a small (or, rather, a micro) business when they otherwise would not be able to. If successful, they will turn into a brick and mortar restaurant. Come check out Ringling Picnic, which will be opening back up on Monday!!!!

    Mindy your theory seems to have some merit that food trucks could give small businesses a boost to become brick and mortar businesses BUT a downtown is not the place to have something that should be in a more suburban area. Having a port-a-potty behind a fence and country pick-nick benches for customers are not in keeping with a city core atmosphere nor is having trucks pulled up by the roadside selling food out of its window. I agree that food trucks are great and I love them in areas that lack amenities or restaurants. Since downtown is full of amenities and restaurants that are underutilized and still have room for growth and expansion, it seems adding transient competition for a minimal fee is not an ideal situation to support the growth we need downtown. There is absolutely no proof or data that would imply the current location of food trucks supports the growth of downtown restaurants or that any of those trucks are working to open a full time restaurant downtown. I will continue to support our downtown restaurants who are here every day and night, along with me, investing significantly to make this a great downtown everyday.
