Residents Petition White House For Florida To Secede From U.S.
On the official website of the White House is a facility opening a petition on any issue that you feel needs addressing. What would you like to petition the U.S. Government to do?
SARASOTA, FL -- While the presidential election is the only true national referendum, petitions are well and alive.
Sarasota, this should be up your alley, with residents in both the city and county embracing the power of petition and referendum. While you can't do the latter, anyone can file a petition with the White House.
At least a few folks in Florida are doing just that, actually petitioning the President Barack Obama White House to allow Florida to break off from the United States government and become its own nation. Hey, Puerto Rico is waiting to take Florida's place, so no need to change the amount of stars on the flag, so there's that.
The Obama White House offers citizens the opportunity to file a petition on its official website. Several people have already opened petitions asking other people to join them in asking for a variety of issues to be considered by the administration. Included in those petitions gaining popularity are a couple relating to Japan’s territorial issues.
For Florida's issue, 1,343 signatures were collected as of Sunday afternoon. Here's what the petition asks:
We the people of the great state of Florida, do see that in today's world the Federal Government has not led our citizens justly and with honor. We therefore as free men and women of our great state do believe that it is time to take matter upon ourselves to ensure our continued freedom, and to enact our own laws and here buy govern ourselves without the federal government's involvement in our internal matters from this day forward.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.
The goal for that petition is 25,000, which is essentially hoping that a town about the size of Venice would say yes and kick off the movement for the whole state, so realistically, we'll put the chances of that happening near zero percent.
A similar petition requested that the state of Louisiana be allowed to peacefully withdraw from the United States of America and create its own new government, as well.
The other Florida-based petition asks the White House to legalize marijuana in the state of Florida, which would really be a state-based issue and vote, but would ultimately needed to be decriminalized by the federal government for any state measure to truly take hold. That petition collected 799 signatures out the 25,000 goal.
Another one though not local, sure wouldn't be met with open arms in Ybor City as the petition asks the FDA to regulate premium cigars.
At last count, more than 30,500 people had digitally signed that petition.
What petition would you like filed with the Obama Administration?

And the new Soviet joke is on you. You know, the guy in the White House who was endorsed by Vladimir Putin, Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez.
The guy who was caught by an open mike telling Putin's sidekick "Tell Vladimir I'll have more flexibility after the election."
But hey, don't worry. I'm sure by "flexibility" he was referring to the tango number that he and buddy Vladimir will be performing on "Dancing with the Stars."

To damm many of us have fought and died for these weak minded ass holes this is good sign they don't give a damm about our fallen hero's. All of these Republican governed states that are signing petitions to secede from the United States of America, should be left on their own to take care of all of their state's problems and not be allowed to get any federal help in any situation, including natural disasters which is bound to happen. What would Christie had done without the help from FEMA after Sandy hit the New Jersey shore?
The problem is that these states want to bring back their own new brand of slavery to their states and they enjoy controlling specific races of people. It will never happen, not in America. Why don't all the disappointed people who did not get Romney elected, just leave the U.S. and start their own country somewhere else.
We, the majority of sensible, honest, and humane people will not miss them.

Gee Grace no wonder those guys might like Obama, seems they're in step with polls around the world that were practically unanimous in preferring him over a guy who doesn't have a clue when it comes to foreign policy. Do you have any idea about what the flexibility remark had to do with? Maybe if you did a little study instead of listening to the right wing noise machine you would stop with the cute remarks and have something meaningful to say.

I just read that 31 states have submitted petitions to date. I'm proud that Texas has actually reached and exceeded the requried number for P-BO to respond to the petition. As far as the states being left on their own without federal support... just think about how much support, "tax money" Texas sends to the federal government. lol Texas life would get much much better for our "legal American citizens" We would have many more jobs without our businesses sending the unreasonable amount of tax penalties to Uncle P-BO to redistribute. I say YeeHaw... let's get this thing done! Good day and God bless from Texas. :)

No state has any kind of right to secede from the Union, Not Even Texas!! Once your in your in. Think back to 1860-1865 and you will see. Even if you could (and you can't) you would have a third world economy. The federal dollars would cease to come in and millions of people would flee. I agree with you Gregg, none of these states including Texas are able to stand on their own feet with aid from the federal government. It is obvious that their so-called flawless plan to STEAL the election failed and it is killing them psychologically and emotionally. We, the real Americans have shown them that money cannot buy everything. Get over it because if not in 2014 you will lose the House, also. Slavery is dead and gone, face it and God will not let you bring it back again. Did you not see that God is the one that controlled this election? But I forgot that you losers do not know God's power, but keep being cruel and destructive and you will feel His wrath. It is obvious that God was not on the Republican and Tea Party's side.

I own a business that has been in Texas over 70-years and contrary to what (1dusgustedamerican) says, Texas does need the "federal dollars" that come to it. Apparentley he did not consider the "facts", more likely he knows not what he is speaking of. Those federal dollars consist of: funding for hospitals, military bases, social security offices, federal courthouses, federal parks, the federal prisons, the local prisons (partial funding), etc. ,etc. etc. The list is too long to mention. Cut those dollars and the state of Texas would literally drown in debt until the state could get up to speed and add aditional taxes to the businesses and people who live here. And yes 99.9 % of all Texans would leave the state from the crush of taxation required to make up for what the federal dollars once took care of. Fortunately most of us Texans are not that shortsighted.

Yes Americans do not want Socialism. Period it is as simple as that and for all his cult like following producing citizens of this country are doing what started this country in the first placve. The right to rule ourselves from an oppresive and repressive government.Do you realize that over 65% of this country does NOT agree with OBAMA on anything? WHy they didn't get counted is easily figured out . When one candidate gets 115% of eligible voters counted in a swing state then something smells in Venice. Goes to show people don't read anymore. Business's are hiring like crazy. Govt is giving small business owners lots of tax credits and incentives to hire and they are doing it all over the US. When business stopped hiring was when Bush reduced the taxes on the wealthy (the job builders) back in 2001. They stopped hiring and put their extra money into their businesses. How many empty shopping centers, office buildings, etc do you see down in Florida that are brand new? How many new banks are opening up? B of A and Wells Fargo on every corner down there. Millionaires who put their extra $$ into building while labor was cheap waiting for the turn around. Every year since 2001 the labor reduction has grown until Obama became Pres. I have never seen such spoiled brat tantrums displayed by adults. What I am more concerned with is that this tantrum is a result of WE THE PEOPLE not voting for the hate-infested political bullshit that the Republicans were, and are, still pandering. They are attempting to castrate women (figuratively AND literally) (here in Ohio, again, with HB #298 this week), altering Voting laws and rights to suit their desired outcomes, to name a few things. All the money in the world didn't buy the election, so they are pissed about that as well. If this sort of behavior is allowed to continue without consequences (especially the voting fiasco in OHIO), we are in more trouble than I care to think about. If these people don't like the outcome (BOO-HOO) then they need to get the hell out of dodge and move to another country. We won't miss them; the LAND belongs to the USA. I am worried that this hate is going to get worse, and I am concerned for America.

You puppets hate Dems so bad ? Do you really think all this sore loser whining is ever going to get your tea party Republican's in ? Seriously ? All this type of whining will do is keep Republican's out for good . Oh , and yes ; you should all be charged as traitor's of the United States . Look at this way , we gave your buddy Bush two terms , and he almost single - handedly destroyed America . I feel sorry for people with your mindset Mr. Stettler ; simply because you don't have the intelligence to look outside the tea party box . I have met very good Republican's . I have met very good Democrats . Your tea party is a very , VERY dangerous group who would TOTALLY destroy America . I didn't like either candidate this election ; as I'm sure how many others felt also . All we can do is hope we all make it through the next four years . Had Romney been elected , we DEFINITELY would have not made it through the next four years . To all you traitorous whiners ; it's alright , it's only four years . Afterall , we lived through Bushes eight years of hell ; didn't we ?

I think think if those states are bound and determined to sucede they should be able to, they should give up all representation in the United States of America. The citizens should give up their citizenship, borders between their state and the United States should be erected and they should have to provide themselves with passports for what ever they want to call their country. Since dollars are the trading and buying of the United States of America, they should either surrender it or if the United States does not want it returned they should have to destroy their dollars and change. The United States Banking should be able to sever banking with the other country and take possesion of all dollars and properties within the United States border. Communication lines should be impounded at their border and social security and pensions should be withheld from citizens of their country. Tariffs should be imposed, United States Postal should be removed, social security should be severed, and pensions involving United States should be frozen until agreements and Constitution and By-laws could be written and put in place by the new country and/or countries. Electricity and water lines should be withheld until the other country figures out what and how they will pay for it. Have at it go "form your perfect Union."

Nah, it's just a childish tantrum, even they know more of the red states receive a disproportionately greater amount of money back from the federal government courtesy of the blue states, but here's an idea. As soon as we get the House back and have all three branches of government again, let's circulate a petition for legislation there can no longer be any taker states, each state receives proportionate to what it gives? I know it will be a hardship on the 70% of the counties in America that vote red but are most food stamp dependent, but hey, they're just takers, anyway.

The six contradictions of socialism in the United States of America:
America is capitalist and greedy – yet half of the population is subsidized.
Half of the population is subsidized – yet they think they are victims.
They think they are victims – yet their representatives run the government.
Their representatives run the government – yet the poor keep getting poorer.
The poor keep getting poorer – yet they have things that people in other countries only dream about.
They have things that people in other countries only dream about – yet they want America to be more like those other countries.

It's obvious there are alot of people in the Fox News bubble. They hear so much doom and gloom, fear mongering B.S. from the likes of Sean Hannity, Karl Rove, Rush Limbaugh that they think it's gospel. It's the divisivness that they and the Tea Baggers are causing by spreading their so called "fair and balanced" news. Unfortunately, there are alot of simple minded vulnerable people out there that believe all the B.S. that Fox News spreads. Fox news is paid to be partial to the conservative side, just like MSNBC is paid to be partial to the liberal side. But MSNBC doesn't go around spreading hatred and fear like Fox does. Instead of spreading fear and divisivness, why not work together to solve our problems. All this negatism is going to do is feed the fear mongerers.

The Democratic party is becoming the party of the devil, as they booed LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa when he included God in the Democratic platform at the Democratic Convention. Currently, 31 states have petitioned the Federal government to secede from Obama’s Divided States of America. Seceding states want to live in freedom, away from Obama states infested with people supporting same-sex marriage laws, excessive and perpetual spending on freeloaders, unbalanced budgets, legalization of dope, suppression of religious freedom, open borders with little or no immigration enforcement, wasting taxpayer money on failed green energy companies, corruption in high levels of government, etc. Liberals, communists, atheists, dope freaks, and homosexuals can live in the Obama utopia; Americans who STAND FOR FREEDOM will conform to our TRADITIONAL and unchanged Constitutional government instead of being oppressed by the socialist Federal government and Obama states that are suppressing freedom. Let's abandon the dope freaks, gays, perpetual freeloaders, baby-killer abortionists, and slugs who live in their welfare states and form a more perfect union with states with a better economy, a better life, and with moral and conservative values.

We don't live in a perfect society You want us to turn into the Third Reich. I'm sorry, but I want to live in a country where people can live with each other without fear and hatred. Where people contribute to the better of the country, instead of endorsing divisivness and hatred among each other. Stop watching Fox news and read the Bible instead.

Perhaps this is what y'all don't get, and will never get. We take how you treat our President and our country very very personally. Bill was never given a day of respect, and President Obama was never given a day of respect, so no respect will be given. Not only will our numbers grow greater by the year, but we grow tougher by the year. About 60% of the Democratic coalition is white, and has been for a long time, more women than men, but we still represent the top two voting blocks of the coalition, and it saddens me to say those numbers will grow with a white candidate, male or female, even as the numbers of our minority partners grow, until y'all get right with the world, but I really don't think that's possible. Reds will continue to enjoy the better real economies that Democrats bring, will continue to take back more from the feds than the blues do, will continue to use the most food stamps, and will continue to bite the hand that feeds you, but dream on, your states will never repeat the fatal mistake of South Caroline on December 20, 1860.

Fascinating comments..200000 + from 37 states have signed petitions...amazing...CNN? FOX? Don't know..gave my TV away in 2009 and resorted to peace and quiet with research, reading and an open mind..have worked since 1964...voted for Carter, Reagan, Ross Perot, Clinton, Gore, Obama in 2008 and Romney. Troubled by the apparent hatred and Gladiator comments, as this is my first time to be blogging...I now see how deep the wounds, division and dislike for fellow Americans has cut. I never dreamed I would hear, see and feel, this in the country that I love. I actually feel like the Von Trapp family from the Sound of Music...frightingly sad...Praying for all...

It is clear the people are fed up with Washington, D.C. and both political parties. They are sending a clear signal to all the politicians that enough is enough. This movement shows that neither political party has a mandate to do anything, other than return power to the people. I am glad the White House gave the people a platform.

I cannot believe the crap on some of these posts. All idiots that want to secede from the United States of America should do so, INDIVIDUALLY, preferably to the farthest region from this beautiful country. They do not deserve to live here. They do not respect our history or the lives that have been given to keep these states united.

Read the Decline And Fall of the American Empire Nov 7 2012 Rabbi P. Fascinating. No one can secede or really wants to. If someone earned wealth for goodness sakes take it and run fast...its yours..do it quick before the 7 million unmaried young CHINESE men come knocking on the FREE HOUSING/PHONE/MEDICAL/FOOD doors ...Mandarin anyone..why work when 1/2 of America can be legally made to carry the load for themselves and the unwilling 1/2. Visit a third world country..come home grateful and carry your own load...
