Sarasota Named Top Spring Break Destination

Sarasota has earned another No. 1 ranking: Top spring break spot for families.

Livability.com, a website that highlights America’s best places to live, released a list of the Top 10 Spring Break Destinations for Families and Sarasota comes out on top.

The website wanted to shy away from the late night college jaunts and instead on places that have great restaurants, fun attractions and outdoor recreation for families, according to a press release.

Livability editors asked members of the  Society of American Travel Writers for their expert opinions on what makes a city a fantastic place for a spring break vacation.

“An ideal destination provides a wide range of activities for families with children of different ages and interests,” says Annette Thompson, SATW board member, freelance travel writer and photographer. “There should be things to do both indoors and outdoors as the weather is not something even the best itinerary can predict.” 

 and calm blue waters with dozens of entertainment options to create one of the best spring break destinations.

Here's what Livability said about why Sarasota is the place to be for spring break:

"There are six distinct beach areas here, all offer a variety of hotels and rental properties, places to relax, natural wonders, great food and fun. In addition to a wealth of historic sites, such as the John Ringling Ca' D'Zan Mansion (yes, one of the Ringling brothers who started the Ringling Circus), Sarasota has a nationally recognized opera house, ballet company, symphony, theaters, museums and art galleries. Nature lovers have their pick of parks and preserves where alligators, foxes, tropical birds and other animals thrive. The more adventurous vacationers can rent kayaks, sailboats and jet skis. Sarasota is the home of the Baltimore Orioles Spring Training Camp."
