SRQ Adds Nonstop Delta Flights To LaGuardia
Nonstop daily flights from Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport to New York's LaGuardia will start Dec. 15.

Another airline will start to offer nonstop daily flights from Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport to New York LaGuardia starting Dec. 15.
Delta Air Lines will offer those daily flights, which follows the addition of JetBlue flying daily to LaGuardia starting June 11, the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority announced Tuesday.
Delta's existing flights from SRQ to LaGuardia includes layovers in either Atlanta or Detroit.
“With our new service between Sarasota Bradenton and New York-LaGuardia, our customers will enjoy convenient access to the preferred airport for travelers flying to and from New York,” said Joe Esposito, Delta’s managing director – domestic network planning in a statement. “And thanks to our new domestic hub at LaGuardia, Delta customers flying to LaGuardia can take advantage of convenient one-stop service to destinations throughout the Northeastern U.S. and beyond.”

SRQ President and CEO Fredrick Piccolo also said he's "delighted with the announcement."
“The commitment and partnership we have with Delta, our largest carrier has never been stronger," Piccolo said. "We look forward to a very exciting fall and winter with Delta and working very hard to ensure great success with all the increased capacity Delta is bringing to SRQ.”
Flights will leave SRQ to LaGuardia at 12:45 p.m. and arrive 3:45 p.m. in New York.
Flights from LaGuardia will depart at 8:45 a.m. and arrive in Sarasota at noon.
As of Tuesday night, a flight from SRQ to LaGuardia on Dec. 15 in economy class sells for $309.60 through Delta. A return flight on Dec. 17 sells for the same price. The same nonstop flight from Tampa costs $219.60.
This is the third additional service announcement SRQ Airport has made this year, after the JetBlue addition and United to add flights to Chicago's O'Hare International Airport Nov. 4, which made up for the loss of AirTran's service to Chicago. Service to another AirTran destination, Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport, has not been replaced yet.
AirTran's service ends Aug. 11.

Very glad to see DL adding a LGA-SRQ flight as it adds competition and an awareness that SRQ is a great destination.
However, DL needs to get its fare structure in order. The JetBlue fare for the same day that DL charges $309.60 is $155, and the return on JB is $245. DL is 50% higher. Plus DL charges for each bag, and if you have a pet, their pet charge is $50 more. It doesn't seem like they'll be able to compete with fares like this.

I am already booked on the new JetBlue service to LGA in June. Many of our Sarasota citizens (including myself) need to get to the Westchester Airport in White Plains, NY. It also serves the Fairfield County area of Ct. I have used that from Tampa but it would be great to have service from SRQ. I know the fare in June is costing $260 round trip inclusive from SRQ-LGA. That's pretty reasonable. I think the fact that Delta is starting in the high season reflects those high prices.

considering the history of midwesterners migrating here for the winter it would make sense for delta to maintain year round service to detroit

I had a flight scheduled and paid for on Jet Blue from Buffalo, NY to JFK and on to Sarasota, on Oct 2nd. Several days later Jet Blue canceled my flight stating they could not make the connection. I researched JB for the week of Oct 2 and found NA on all days except for the Saturday before and the Saturday afterwards for $50 more. My options were Buf to JFK and then find my own way to LaGuardia in order to fly into SRQ...I am 70 years old, flyingby myself, and do not know my way around NY city, so I cancelled the flight. I found another flight on another airline, but was unable to get anything into SRQ in that week. The closest I can get is St. Pete. I live only minutes away from SRQ and this whole situation was very disappointing.

NEWARK, NJ to SRQ....PLEASE!!!!!! I love Delta, but a 5+ hr. flight is exhausting!!!
I will NEVER go to Tampa or Ft. Myers..........ONLY SRQ!!!!!!
