State Sen. Detert Critiques Campaign Press Coverage (Video)

State Sen. Nancy Detert says the mainstream network media has manipulated the campaign race.

Florida State Sen. Nancy Detert has always been known for her humor during speeches, but she's just as capable at mixing in some political barbs.

Detert (District 23) keyed in on the press for what she considers, heavily influencing the presidential race.

"I have never seen a campaign that has been so manipulated by the press," Detert said Thursday at the Gov. Mitt Romney campaign stop in Sarasota. "In fact, I'm going to presume that most of you are Republicans, but I'm going to hope that a lot of you are independents who just came to use your own two eyes and your own two ears to make your own informed decision without any filter because Americans, when given the proper information will make a good decision."

She then said that the mainstream network news is focusing on the wrong stories — Romney's miscue on tape instead of the attacks overseas, based on her viewing of Tuesday night's newscast.

"We have a dead ambassador murdered in a foreign country," Detert emphatically said. "Shouldn't that be the lead story for crying out loud? We have people burning the American flag all over the Middle East—not a mention of that."

What did the three major networks cover Wednesday evening?

CBS was the only network to specifically cover the follow-up to the Libyan attack having a piece on Glen Doherty, American who died in Libyan attack, being laid to rest, then continued with reports of additional attacks in the Middle East.

All the big three — NBC, ABC and CBS led with stories on Romney's campaign, miscue or new poll numbers.

NBC and ABC also covered the flag burnings and protests in reaction to a French cartoon featuring a Muslim prophet while ABC also covered the U.S. increasing its military presence near Iran.

Detert also critiqued an Obama attack ad on Romney's college loan plans as Obama wants to offer some loan forgiveness and a tiered payment plan.

"I can't believe they are running a TV ad mocking Mitt Romney when he says you know, go to college and borrow money from your parents—do whatever you need to do," she said. "What? Are you suppose to borrow from the government first before you even speak to your parents? Why do you even have a family?"
