Update: Verizon VoIP Phone Outage Resolved

Verizon fixed a disruption in its Voice over Internet Protocol phone service that started Saturday night, but 911 calls will not be affected.

Update: "According to the Public Safety Communications Center there have not been any issues since midnight and Verizon believes the problem has been resolved," according to a statement by Wendy Rose, spokeswoman for the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office is receiving numerous calls from people reporting their phone issues via 911 and reminds residents to only call 911 for a law, fire or medical emergency issues.

Customers who use the Internet phone service can still dial 911 as the call will be routed through a third party system to the sheriff's office 911 call center, according to the sheriff's office.
