Wallenda Given 'Voice of Sarasota' Award

Daredevil Nik Wallenda was recognized at a tourism group's breakfast Thursday for promoting Sarasota, his hometown.

Sarasota native Nik Wallenda received the "Voice of Sarasota" award Thursday morning at a breakfast and ceremony as part of Visit Sarasota County's 2013 National Tourism Week.

Wallenda received the accolade for the way he promotes his hometown through his skywalks. 

In January, Wallenda walked over U.S. 41 and told Patch at the time:

"I truly love this city and anything I can do to shine an international spotlight and attract more visitors, I'm more than willing to do."

Next month, Wallenda plans to tightrope walk across a section of the Grand Canyon.
