We had a moment to look through some old files today and found something that we thought might be an interesting follow up to our blog, Sarasota's Inside view of the Oscars

There are approximately 6,000 members of the the Motion Picture Academy, known in the industry as AMPAS.

The way the voting works for the Academy Awards is as follows:

• The Academy is separated into branches, writers, actors, cinematographers etc.

• Everyone in the Academy gets to nominate films for BEST Picture.

However, each individual branch of the Academy nominates for their specific profession within the film industry. Actors nominate actors, writers nominate writers, cinematographers nominate cinematographers.

Once the nominations are announced then the entire Academy voting body can vote on all catergories except the short films and documentaries. If an Academy member wants to vote in these catergories they must see the films and verify that by attending screenings during the Awards season. 

Will enjoyed attending many screening with Jerome Lawrence at the Academy and being part of the awards the process if only by association.

Here is a picture of the changing face of Oscar over the years and the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre.  It is one of the best theatres in the world to watch a movie.
