Tsunami of Lies Coming to Sarasota

I am so tired of the flood of negative political ads, Republicans against each other  as well as against the President. It's even worse knowing the ads to be completely false.

And now there’s much more to come! Karl Rove’s ad blitz is set to begin. Rove and his super PAC, American Crossroads GPS, announced the launch of new TV commercials in Florida focusing on President Obama’s energy policies and gas prices, gas prices, gas prices. The ads will start Wednesday on broadcast and cable networks in Tampa-St. Petersburg, Orlando, West Palm Beach, and Fort Myers-Naples for an initial buy of over $789,000.

With plans to spend over $200 million during the course of the campaign, American Crossroads intends to destroy President Obama's standing with voters now, long before the election really begins.

According Steven Law, President of  American Crossroads, “Crossroads research suggests that Mr. Obama’s campaign has started to gain traction among critical swing voters by arguing that Republicans, including Mr. Romney, favor an ‘economic plutocracy’ in which middle-class voters can no longer count on financial security, even though they work hard and play by the rules.”

But instead of countering this idea that Romney represents only the rich and their unfair advantages, Rove and American Crossroads will simply be attacking the President.

This news of Karl Rove’s massive -- and entirely negative -- ad campaign funded by right-wing millionaires and billionaires shows they're not interested in running on the issues, or letting voters choose between two visions for our country. They just want to destroy Barack Obama.

And they don’t care if what they say is true. If you can afford to put lies on TV 30 times a day, people will start to believe them. It will be a fight, but President Obama won’t let that happen. You can be sure that he will be setting the record straight. And here in Sarasota County, Democrats will be doing the same to make sure people know the truth – and that they vote in November.

In the end, elections are won and lost by who turns out to vote. And getting out the vote is the key job of the Sarasota County Democratic Party. Help us prove that the will of the people is stronger than Karl Rove’s money and lies. Volunteer your time to help get out the vote. We have jobs to suit everyone’s skills and interests. Are you serious???? This president spins lies all the time. We have never had a president so partisan and so filled with hatred towards the opposition as Obama. I am embarrassed to have him as our president. Comedy show in Chief, spender in Chief.

This country can't take 4 more years of him and his spending, lying thieves.

Jenny, your comment is so ridiculous that words fail me. Your accusations have no basis whatsoever in fact. Obama has gone out of his way multiple times (far too many times, in my opinion) to try to accommodate the Republicans and every time they just change ground. How about the statement that the Republicns number one objective is to defeat Obama. How's that for partisanship. The country can go to hell so long as it reflects badly on Obama. That seems to be the mantra. As for hatred, I challenge you to come up with a single proof of that. Disagreement, yes, opposition, yes. But that's normal politics. All the hatred I see and hear and I hear and see plenty, is directed towards Obama. And I can prove that. Your own comment smells of something like hatred, IMHO.

Henry, please turn off MSNBC. Really. Your rhetoric is nothing but talking points from the likes of Obama, Pelosi, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, etc. If you want to see hatred, google Maxine Waters vile comments she makes about Republicans.

I guarantee you that if Obama wins again (and I think he will) you will be facing a Dr saying "sorry I have to submit your knee replacement surgery and see if the government will approve it because you are over 40". Don't believe me? It is coming and you, Mr Cheerleader will be the one who is only allowed to be medicated for pain because you are over 40. Don't rebute this as I have read Obama Care in a committee at my work and it is coming. Don't believe me??? LOOK IT UP!

Henry, I spent 12 yrs in college and work with this everyday, don't tell me I don't know what I am talking about. I do and you will also, soon. Get your head out of the sand while you are still can. Soon you will not even have a choice.

Jenny - I guess you prefer having a profit oriented insurance company making your decisions about healthcare. You have bought the nonsense that big money is spewing out.

Barry, I haven't "bought" anything. I am the one who is going to have to tell patients that the cannot get a knee replacement because they have been denied by the gov't because they are over 40. If you have not read Obama Care, please do not believe the media and don't comment without knowledge of the wording of the new law. There will be committee's and they will decide. It is coming and we are gearing up for it. Patients who are wise, know it and are addressing problems now, while they can. They others, like you, will find out when they are sitting in front of their Dr in a couple years.

Say what you want and spew the rhetoric that you have been taught. I on the other hand have the facts in my pocket and I know people are not going to be happy when they see what they are facing. It is coming so don't shrug it off.

There is absolutely no doubt that Sarasota Democrats will be out in full force to counter the negative and misleading information coming from Republican super packs. given the choice voters would much rather have agency or committee of the people overseeing procedures rather than a corporate committee concerned with profit and loss overseeing procedures. We have already experienced that and what we got were people who were denied coverage when it did not balance on a P&L sheet. The private sector had their chance and failed miserably.
That is why Sarasota Democrats will Support both President Obama and Keith Fitzgerald for Congress.
They will stand with the people not the insurance companies.

Yes, we can see how efficient the goverment "agency" runs things.....US Post Office needing bailouts and on the verge of collapse, US Disability Ins. has 4 years and then they are broke, Social Security is had so much money stolen from it from our "leaders" that the system is going to collapse, EPA refuse to let homeowners build homes on their own land and rape them with legal fees until they go bankrupt, shall I go on????

If you are not a Doctor who is facing what Obama Care is throwing at us, then you really can't understand and you really shouldn't be commenting.

Just wait until you have to apply and wait for months to see if you are allowed to receive an MRI, then if you are approved you will have to wait for your appt. Think I'm joking? It's coming Mr Tate.

The people are not ignorant enough to buy into the rhetoric that they bought into last time.

Wish I could spend more time on this today. Your allegations are misleading which is characteristic of today's Republican campaign strategy. The Post Office,SS, and US disabilities all have been underfunded in a Republican effort to either privatize social programs or minimize the ACLU aka the voice of the working middle class,
The EPA which was started under the Nixon administration came about after our Lakes caught on fire and our air became dangerous to breath.

Again I trust Keith Fitzgerald and Barack Obama far more to protect people who require Health Care as well as insure that that things like clean air and water are available for all.

Good Day.

Bravo Jenny ! The only tsunami of lies that have been told is the Obama Tsunami of Lies. That is what gave him the white house and the help of all his millionaire and billionare friends in the media, pathetic hollywood and wall street, yes wall street. It's amazing how no one on the left minds that his large network of friends and followers are millionaires and billionaires. I do not understand the hatred towards Rove and the republicans they don't need to destroy him he has done a fine job doing that himself by showing the world he can accomplish nothing not even with having both the senate and the house for two years. What he has accomplished... Not passing a budget for 3 years, accomplished spending trillions, when Bush spent he was an idiot when Obama spends he's a genious.. accomplished raiding medicaire to use the money for the stimulus, accomplished getting gas prices to soar so everyone will fall in line and purchase priuses, oh I forgot only Bush was responsible when gas prices had gone up during his term but as gas has soared there is no blame on our present President by the media or left..well gas prices were at $1.85 when Obama entered office, perhaps he should call Bush and ask him how he did that. Accomplished dividing this country as a result of you being successful in your business endeavors, accomplished destroying our relations with Isreal, accomplished apologizing to the world for America.
I'd hate to see what another 4 years of accomplishments would do.

Gas prices go up when the world price of oil goes up. Check it out at http://zfacts.com/node/424. I never blamed Bush either when prices went up on his watch. To suggest that President Obama would deliberately increase the price of gas (even if he could) when that would obviously be a negative at the polls, is just plain nutty. Drilling in the US has increased throughout Obama's term.
And jenny, there is nothing in the Affordable Care Act that says patients will have to wait for MRI's etc. Yes, there will be processes to try to avoid unnecessary procedures (which currently account for much of the escalation of costs), but the operative word is "unnecessary". I regularly decline some tests and procedures that my doctor wants to do right now because I don't think they are necessary; the doctor just wants to generate more income and at the same time cover his A against possible liability. You can't rail against increasing costs and at the same time complain about efforts to rein in unnecessary costs. I have read most of the Affordable Care Act and I challenge you to give me a citation that says any necessary procedure will be prohibited.

Wrong again Henry .... youtube Secretary of Energy Steven Chu under title Lower Gas Prices Not Our Goal.. that would be in his words the plan they have for gas prices. Drilling has declined drastically since Obama has taken office look that up also. Prices should drop shortly so that he can get re- elected and then after he is in you can watch them soar again. A pathetic game at the expense of us hardworking Americans. You want to also know what Obamacare would be like, move to europe and get sick... good luck.. you better have a full wallet so you can bribe the Dr. to see you before the others. You have no clue. That is why the Canandians and Europeans flock here to have their medical procedures done.. the ones with money that is, the ones that are there are out of luck. So sad to see how gullible his devoted folllowers are. Remember he has accomplished nothing that is the problem.

To Jenny and Amanda. Your frustration and anger is apparent. These are bad times and we are all seeking answers about what is best to help all of us, especially those Americans who are suffering most. You have a right to your opinions and I know that you have reasons for how you feel. So let's try something here. What about looking at sources of information that most people believe are reliable? Henry referred you to http://zfacts.com/node/424 to see what is said there about the changing oil prices. Looks like honest information to me. There are some other places you can Google that are not biased. First, about health care, - Google "world health care systems." You will see that all of the other developed countries (over 30 of them) have had universal health care before us (some for over 20 years). Are we so much smarter than all of those other countries that we continue to want a system that is controlled by the companies that make money doing that? Like we have now? Most other countries use a combination of both government and private and it seems to work quite well. Independent studies (Google them) about which countries have the most effective health care (including cost per citizen) consistently find that the U.S. is near the bottom (if not at it). True, we may have some of the best health care in the world but only so long as you are lucky enough to be able to pay for it with your own money. Ok, where do you get your facts, Jenny and Amanda?

Wow, I think it is great that everyone is so passionate on both sides of this issue. I just wish that someone would ask the simple question "are you and your family better off than you were 3 years ago". The answer would be NO. Have gas prices stayed the same or have they gone higher than 3 years ago. The answer would be "higher". Has any of the so called green job companies costing more than 1 Billion $$$$$ to tax payers turned out to be successful? Answer "NO" I have news for all of you the system is rigged so that the simple minded people focus on the me and you factor. It's simple people we are so far in the hole as a country we may never pull out of this. If you want to just throw around insults it will get us nowhere. Great video to watch on youtube "If I wanted America to fail" watch it and if you still do not "get it", there is no hope for you.

Actually, I know several people who are better off than they were three years ago. But I agree the economy as a whole is not, because of the recession that started under Bush. If you blame Obama for that you are just playing partisan games. Could Obama have done more to speed recovery? Probably, but it would have been difficult with a Congress whose prime objective is to to see him fail. But unemployment has improved steadily since mid-2009. I agree completely that the system is rigged to favor corporations and the very wealthy.
I don't know anyone who is aiming for equality. But we should aim for fairness and a society with the income disparity that we have today is not fair.
Amanda, you say drilling has declined drastically under Obama. Where did you get that gross misstatement from. Check out this AP article from The Tennessean http://www.tennessean.com/article/20120322/NEWS08/303220057/History-shows-U-S-drilling-didn-t-drop-gas-prices
which says: " Seasonally adjusted U.S. oil production dropped steadily from February 1986 until three years ago. ....Since February 2009, U.S. oil production has increased 15 percent when seasonally adjusted."

All that drilling was done outside of our gov't control. In the mean time our gov't has curtailed the ability to produce and refine here in the US during this current administration.
I would suggest that all take off their political lenses and look at what the political insiders from both side of the aisle have done to The US.
Just look at the billions of dollars some in our gov't thought was good to give to green companies to make SMART meters. google: if the SMART meter on my house makes me sick, what should I do. It will astound you.

Hey Ogalley, thanks for actually starting an intelligent conversation. I do believe that the #'s you are stating about the unemployment rates are way off. I am in the workforce at this time and deal with everyday blue collar workers. I would put a realistic # at around 15 percent. I know that some conservative websites would put it up to 25% or so. My biggest fear is that people will stay focused on the distractions of DEM vs REP and who wants him to fail. You will notice that I do not use the O word and never will. I do not care what people say about him being legit or not. All I know is I had to show not only my REAL stamped birth certificate as well as all of my school records and degree's for my law enforcement position. I was proud to show my college records and all of my school history to anyone who wanted to see them. In time all of the truth will come out but it will be way to late for many well intentioned people. You can not believe what the lame stream media is feeding people. Here is a simple example "foreign oil imports are lower under O than under Bush", Duh it has nothing to do with any decision that O or his people made. Common sense would tell you when prices go up demand goes down thus less call for imports of oil. So tired of the left and right thing (FACTS WILL SET YOU FREE)... FREE MARKET,TAX CUTS AND LESS GOVERNMENT IS THE ONLY WAY OUT. Just in case I have land, fresh water and plenty of security for the family (and I don't mean money).

Willyone, I can't argue about your unemployment figures; all I know are the official published data. Even if true totals are higher, maybe they were higher three years ago also and so maybe whatever the level, they are coming down? Who knows? I don't.
I do agree that neither Obama nor Bush could do much to influence gas prices or oil imports. Those are both controlled by market forces.
A question I keep wondering about - is there ever a point at which you would say "no more cuts in taxes or reductions in government"? If not, then your position is zero tax and zero government. If yes, how do you tell when you reach that point? Please think about it. I would really like to know your answer.

Its too comical that it is apparantly OK for the Democrat super pacs to spend millions of dollars spewing hatred and lies about Mitt Romney, but the Republican super pacs cannot expose the lies and deceits being perpetrated by the incumbant. What happened to all the transparency promised. Yet so much is being done behind locked doors, with few parcipants. Its ok for a liberal to call Sarah Palin a slut, but don't you dare call a liberal a slut. Doiuble standards, thats what the Democratic party is all about.

Beverly is the 3rd woman to obviousy be stuck on Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. Too bad. There is so much potential in the gender that the GOP must feel threatened, what with all this anti-woman legislation cropping up all over the place. It's a shame, really that people will walk through the gates of hell with eyes wide open and the "dark one" had a red phone to the likes of Bush, Cheney, Rove etc. and updated his phone list to include McConnell, Boehner, Ryan & Cantor. If it wasn't for the constant obstruction (verifiable fact), we'd all be better off now.

Beverly, it's not OK to call anyone a slut. But as far as personal attacks, when someone runs for public office, they are fair game for attacks by opponents. That is different from a Rush Limbaugh attacking a private citizen when all she did was testify at a hearing. If you cannot see the difference, that's too bad.
