Five Things: Bucs Blackout, 7-Eleven Arrest and More...

Here are five things we thought you should know today....

Smooth Sailing on the Horizon?: Motorists who trek across Pasco County or Northwest Hillsborough have long said there’s no good way to travel from U.S. 19 to U.S. 301. The rally cry for a new east-west road to fix that has gone up again, but this time it’s private firms looking into making it happen. An unsolicited proposal to construct a 33-mile toll road at no expense to taxpayers has landed on the desks of officials at the Florida Department of Transportation and they’re taking the offer seriously, according to TBO.com. The elevated road would run along State Roads 54 and 56. Is this a good idea?

Arrest in 7-Eleven Robbery: A Bradenton woman has been arrested in connection with the armed robbery at 7-Eleven on Clark Road on August 18, according to Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

You Can’t Wear That: That’s what some Pinellas County high school students are being told about their own school-approved cheerleading uniforms. While the uniforms are OK for sidelines wear, they don’t make the grade in regard to school dress code policies. That means cheerleaders who wear their uniforms to class are now in violation of school rules, according to the Tampa Bay Times. What’s your take on this?

Bucs Blackout: Buccaneer fans who want to see Thursday’s final preseason game against the Redskins are going to have to shell out for tickets. The team has announced the game is blacked out due to a failure to sell enough seats for the game, TBO.com is reporting.

Time to Dry Out?: Waterlogged yards might get a break from the constant pelting of rain todayWednesday, Aug. 28. The National Weather Service says Tampa Bay only has a 20 percent chance of showers during the afternoon hours. The likelihood drops to about 10 percent in the overnight hours.
