Celebrate Holy Week, Easter with The Church of the Redeemer

April 7, 2014 / Sarasota, Fla. — The Church of the Redeemer, 222 S. Palm Ave., in downtown Sarasota, invites the entire community to join the parish in celebrating Holy Week and Easter, the focal point and heart of the Christian Faith.

The Great Three Days (Paschal Triduum) begin Maundy Thursday, April 17. Masses this day commemorate the Last Supper of Jesus: The institution of the Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. The evening mass is a choral Mass including the washing of feet, procession to the Altar of Repose and stripping of the altars.

On April 18, the Solemn Liturgy for Good Friday begins at noon. This beautiful, three-hour liturgy commemorates the time Jesus hung on the cross, and will include the singing of the Passion according to John, Solemn Collects, Veneration of the Cross and Holy Communion from the Reserved Sacrament.

Also on April 18, the Church of the Redeemer will lead the walking of the Stations of the Cross down Main Street in Sarasota beginning at7:30 a.m. Dozens of area churches and local leaders and hundreds of members of the Sarasota community will gather on the sidewalk in front of the Hollywood 20 movie theater to begin the procession through the downtown corridor. The walk ends at Redeemer and is followed by Morning Prayer at the church at 8:30 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. Confessions will be heard this day between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.

The celebration of the Resurrection begins with the Great Vigil of Easter at 8 p.m. Sat., April 19.

On Easter Sunday, April 20, choral celebrations of the Eucharist of the Resurrection will be offered at 7, 9 and 11 a.m. Children in the First Communion Class will receive their First Communion during the 9 a.m. Mass.  At 1 p.m., Redeemer will offer a Mass in Spanish.

Complimentary parking is available in the BMO Harris Bank parking garage on McAnsh Square on the following days: Maundy Thursday, April 17, 6:30-10 p.m.; Easter Eve, April 19, 6:45 p.m.-midnight; and Easter Sunday, April 20, from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.
