Dedication Date Announced for Patriot Plaza

SARASOTA, Fla. (Jan.14, 2014) – The Patterson Foundation has announced that the community dedication of Patriot Plaza, the ceremonial amphitheater at Sarasota National Cemetery, will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014. The dedication will be open to the public, celebrating Southwest Florida’s commitment to honoring veterans and their families this past year as well as commemorating the service and sacrifice of our nation’s military.

The 1.83-acre Patriot Plaza was created through a first-ever partnership between private philanthropy and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs – National Cemetery Administration. The finished amphitheater, which is fully funded by philanthropy and created without taxpayer dollars, will have covered seating for 2,800 guests, an 80-foot-tall flagpole, and multi-million-dollar commissioned art throughout the space that symbolizes the sacrifice of all veterans and their families.

“There is no doubt this region cares and shows up to honor veterans and their families. It was so apparent when 3,000 people showed up for the groundbreaking and dedication of Sarasota National Cemetery,” said Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation. “We are looking forward to sharing Patriot Plaza with our fellow community members as they think about ways to use the amphitheater for years to come to honor veterans.”
