Join 'Sustainability in Golf…Beyond the Green' on Hilton Head Island in October
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (August 23, 2013) – Being good stewards of our resources is a responsibility of every individual, but there is a need to understand the why and how to put these concepts into action, according to Teresa Wade, founder and executive director of Experience Green, a nonprofit organization with the mission to build sustainable communities. Thus, Experience Green will host Sustainability in Golf… Beyond the Green, Oct. 3-4 at the Sea Pines Resort, an educational event about sustainability that includes balancing environmental stewardship with impacts on quality of life and the economy.
Presented by The Sea Pines Resort and Syngenta, in partnership with many leading golf industry organizations, the two-day experience will include:
* full-day symposium of collaborative discussions, idea and information exchanges via panel discussions with regional and national sustainability and golf experts
* tour of an Audubon-certified golf course in The Sea Pines Resort
* tour of Harbour Town Golf Links 18th Green Marsh Restoration and Stabilization Project
* Sunset Reception in Harbour Town (also available as a single event)
* golf outing on the Ocean Course in the Sea Pines Resort, Hilton Head Island’s first golf course (also available as a single event)
Using the example of golf as a game, habitat preserver and contributor to the community and its economy and more, attendees will discover new ways to support sustainable efforts in their own community.
"Golf is often perceived as a consumer of resources rather than a contributor to community. But the golf industry adds value in so many ways, and is integrating technologies and practices to reduce environmental impact, improve efficiencies, reduce costs, enhance property values and offer exceptional experiences for golfers and visitors,” said Steve Mona, CEO of the World Golf Foundation. “It contributes to the local economy and its communities with charitable donations and by providing green space for wildlife habitat. These efforts benefit the planet, its people and prosperity - what is often considered the ‘triple bottom line’ in sustainability’.”
Early bird registration for the two-day event is $175 per person through Sept. 19, with special accommodation rates available at The Sea Pines Resort for attendees. For more information and to register, visit www.experiencegreen.org/golf.
