Don't miss Proyecto Son is a traditional son band that brings back the sounds of Arcenio Rodriguez, Ignacio Pineiro and Chapotin among other pioneer's of the son. The ‘son’ is the quintessential Afro-Cuban musical form. Although there are traces of son as early as the 16th century, modern son first appeared in the eastern part of Cuba in the late 19th century. It was re-popularized in the 1990's by the Buena Vista Social Club, which went on to sell one million albums. Son is the precursor of what we call SALSA today.
Projecto Son features Miguel S. on Cuban Tres Guitar, and vocals, Mauricio Rodriguez on Bass, Ivan Montero on Bongo Drums, Cow Bell, minor Percussion, and Vocals, Abel Feria on Vocal and Guitar, Gino Picart on Trumpet, and Frankie Pineiro on Conga Drums. Pineiro is the host of the “Afro-Cuban Jazz Edition” on WSLR 96.5 (alt. Tuesdays10am-12pm) and this show will be a benefit for the community radio station. The concert will take place on Saturday, September 28th at 8pm at the Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center, 525 Kumquat Court. Advance tickets are $10 and are available at www.wslr.org.
