Goldman Keystone Award to Honor Outstanding Individuals Making a Difference in Local Cancer Support

SARASOTA, FL -- Nominations are now being accepted for the 2014 Stephen H. Goldman M.D. Keystone Award presented by the Center for Building Hope.  Now in its 13th year, the annual Goldman award recognizes three exceptional individuals for their dedication and contribution to the local cancer community.

One physician, one medical professional and one lay person or organization will be honored during the Celebration of Hope Dinner to be held on Wednesday, April 30th at 6:00 p.m. at the Fête Catering & Ballroom at Polo Grill in Lakewood Ranch.  The award winners embody the Center of Building Hope’s mission and spirit of helping our participants log 32,000 hours in visits annually -- patients, caregivers and families impacted by cancer.

“Treatment after a cancer diagnosis involves four main approaches—medication, radiation, surgery and self-care.  Our programs involve the most important components of good self-care for patients and caregivers—some form of exercise, social and psychological support, information about a healthy diet, and stress reduction,” says Andrea Feldmar, Program Director. “The Keystone Award winners exemplify our mission by improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their families.”

The Stephen H. Goldman, M.D. Keystone Award was established in 2001 to honor and recognize the passion Dr. Goldman  brought to both his professional and personal life in supporting those impacted by cancer.  By definition, a keystone is the central stone of an arch that locks its parts together, a supporting element that gives the archway its strength and stability.  Such an element is seen as a fitting metaphor for the work performed by Dr. Goldman and all Keystone Award winners since.

Recipients of this prestigious award are selected by Center for Building Hope’s Award Selection Committee comprised of members of the CBH Board of Trustees, previous award winners and representatives from hospitals in Sarasota and Manatee counties.  All nominations are confidential and become the property of CBH.
