Ohio State Alumni Club Golf Outing

The Sarasota-Manatee Ohio State Alumni Club will host its 12th Annual Golf Outing on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Pelican Point Golf & Country Club, 499 Derbyshire Dr., Venice, Fla. 34285. Players are welcome to arrive beginning at 6:30 a.m. for the 8 a.m. tee time with a shotgun start.

The outing is open to members as well as non-members for $110 per person which includes 18 holes of golf immediately followed by a luncheon. Non-golfers are welcome to attend the luncheon with a speaker for $25 per person. The event will also feature more than 100 silent auction offerings, a hole in one contest with a chance to win a two-year lease for a 2014 Ford Mustang donated by Sarasota Ford as well as a helicopter golf ball drop with an opportunity to win $1,000. All event proceeds support the local alumni club’s scholarship fund.

John Hicks has been confirmed as a celebrity golfer and special guest speaker during this year’s luncheon. Hicks is an Ohio native, who played Offensive Tackle for The Ohio State University where he was recognized with All-Big Ten and All-American status, the Lombardi Trophy, Sporting News National College Player of the year, Cleveland Touchdown Club College Football Player of the year and the Outland Trophy. He finished second for the Heisman Trophy in 1973 before he has drafted in the first round by the New York Giants. He was National Football League Rookie of the year, All-Pro and National Football League Man of the Year. Hicks is also a College Hall of Fame as well as the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame inductee.

“We are looking forward to a great day of golf and this special opportunity to personally meet an OSU football ‘great,’” said David Taylor, Golf Outing Chair for the local Ohio State club. “Our golf outing is one of our most successful fundraisers each year, raising more than $60,000 for scholarships over the past 11 years. Whether you are a weekend hacker or scratch golfer, we invite everyone to participate and help support OSU students from our area.”
The local organization is currently assisting nine college students originally from Sarasota and Manatee Counties with $2,000 scholarships, $18,000 in total during the 2013-2014 academic year.
