Sarasota arts writer/radio host releases new book

Aug. 7, 2013 / Sarasota, Fla. — Well-known Sarasota arts writer and radio host Marty Fugate has published a new book, Cosmic Debris — a collection of science fiction short stories released by Fugitive Publications. Fugate, whose articles on the Suncoast arts scene appear regularly in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, also co-hosts an arts radio program for WSLR 96.5 radio, and is a published cartoonist. Cosmic Debris is Fugate's fourth book, and is available on Amazon.com in both hard copy and formatted for the Kindle.

Sarasota-based filmmaker and author Austin McKinley describes the anthology as "fascinating, clever, funny, and convincingly chilling. The syncopated stream-of-consciousness style—almost beat poetry—makes each conceptual nugget snap, pop, and crackle with life. This is modern sci-fi with shades of Phillip K. Dick and Harlan Ellison, but with a sharp pop-culture sensibility and a literary perspective all his own. Marty's predictions are bold and prophetic, his observations cautionary and laugh-out-loud hilarious. Between these pages are ideas you'll be considering for some time to come.”

New Yorkers in an alien slave ship contemplate the perfect bagel. The victim of a horrific crime fights to keep his memories private. A near-future cop takes the blame for the decadent elite and considers a new career. Addicts in Edwardian London bless Dr. Jekyll for the potion that frees them from repression. These are just a few of the fascinating worlds of Cosmic Debris.

Fugate is currently working on ImagN, a cross-platform science fiction series, set for simultaneous release in novel, film and graphic novel formats. He recently completed a treatment for an animated television mini-series called The Rockitz, a darkly comic, cyberpunk parody of The Jetsons. Fugate also writes about architecture, performance, film, literature, politics, art and technology for various publications and for his blog, “New Bad Future” (badfuture.blogspot.com).
