The Patterson Foundation to Match Season of Sharing Donations

The Patterson Foundation announced it will once again match up to $500,000 in new or increased donations made to Season of Sharing, the campaign to help Southwest-Florida families on the verge of homelessness. This marks the fifth year The Patterson Foundation is offering a match to inspire greater generosity and new donations to the campaign.

Founded by the Herald-Tribune in partnership with the Community Foundation of Sarasota County in 2000, the Season of Sharing campaign –in partnership with the region’s media – has raised more than $9 million benefiting people in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and DeSoto counties. History has shown about 85 percent of people who receive Season of Sharing funding do not require funding the next year.

“Each year, we recognize there is new need to help those who find themselves on the verge of homelessness, especially from circumstances beyond their control,” said Debra Jacobs, president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation. “Through this match, we are inspiring new supporters of Season of Sharing and are connecting them to the long-term need of friends and neighbors in our community.”  

According to studies conducted in Sarasota County, preventing homelessness costs communities less – about $1,000 to keep people in their homes versus $8,000 to transition those who are homeless back into stable housing.
