Update: 2 Killed When Van Flips on I-75

Two people died and six were injured when a van overturned on I-75 in Sarasota County on Sunday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

UPDATE 5 p.m. Sunday:

All lanes of traffic are open on Interstate 75 after a car accident left two people dead Sunday morning.

UPDATE 3 p.m. Sunday:

Two passengers died in a single vehicle crash with multiple injuries Sunday morning on Interstate 75 in Sarasota County when a van overturned after it blew out a tire.

The driver and five more passengers went to area hospitals for their injuries, according to a Florida Highway Patrol media release.

A Dodge van was headed north on I-75 around mile marker 194 when the left rear tire blew out, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The van veered from the left lane across the center and right lanes of the highway and overturned, according to a FHP release.

The driver, Johniece F. Diaz, 28, of Cape Coral went to Blake Medical Center with serious injuries. An unnamed passenger also went to Blake with critical injuries, according to the FHP release.

Passenger, Jami J. Curran, 31, of Cape Coral went to Venice Hospital with serious injuries. Another unnamed passenger also went to Venice with serious injuries, authorities said.

Two more unnamed passengers, both in serious condition, went to Doctors Hospital, officials report.

The families of the two deceased passengers had not yet been notified.

The Florida Highway Patrol investigated Sunday a single vehicle fatal crash with multiple injuries on I-75 northbound at mile marker 194 in Sarasota County, according to a FHP media release.

Traffic was backed up and congested on part of I-75 in Sarasota County. The highway patrol has opened the northbound inside and center lanes, the outside lane remains closed for the investigation, officials report.
