Wings of Freedom Tour Flies Through Sarasota
Non-profit Collings Foundation's annual tour of World War II bombers makes a stop at the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport this week.
History buffs and plane enthusiasts of all ages will get a chance to marvel at and fly in World War II bombers Wednesday through Friday this week in Sarasota.
The Wings of Freedom tour stops at Rextrix Aviation at the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport this week where folks can tour a B-17 Flying Fortress, B-34 Liberator or the dual control P-51C Mustang.
Walkthrough tours cost $12 for adults; $6 for children 12 and under. Hours are 2 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon on Friday. The tour will also stop at the Venice Municipal Airport's Sun Coast Air Center Friday 2 to 4 p.m. and then 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

And if you're daring, and have the cash, for $425, you can have a 30-minute flight experience on the B-17 and B-24. Half-hour and full hour flights in the P-51 are also available.

The non-profit Collings Foundation operates the tour, which also means the flight experience are a tax-deductible donation. Reservations for the flight experiences are required by calling 1-800-568-8924.
