Wreaths Across America Seeks Sarasota Volunteers, Donors

Volunteers will lay wreaths at Sarasota National Cemetery on Dec. 15.

A national non-profit that honors veterans' graves during the holidays is seeking volunteers for the Sarasota National Cemetery ceremony and wreath laying.

Wreaths Across America is accepting wreath donations and volunteers for its Dec. 15 wreath laying. A decorative Christmastime wreath is laid against each headstone in the cemetery, located at 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota.

Show up at 9:30 a.m. Saturday to volunteer to place wreaths on the graves. A short dedication ceremony and instructions on wreath distribution will be held before the wreath laying.

You can also donate visit Wreaths Across America online to sponsor a wreath, which costs from $15 for an individual wreath to $1,500 for a corporate sponsor worth 100 wreaths.

The non-profit organization started out in 1992 when Main businessman Morrill Worester started to lay wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery and since expanded the project across the nation on a specified Saturday in December each year.
