5 Things to do in Sarasota This Weekend (Aug. 12-14)

Each week Sarasota Patch will give you a heads up on five events worth checking out this weekend.

1. Free Concert Series

Friday night at the , country band  will be performing a free concert. Starting at 5 p.m. head over to the North Trail and watch a local band, originally from Bradenton, rock the house. One Night Rodeo most recently won the Great American Country and Music Nation's Next GAC Star competition. 

2. Roller Derby at Stardust

On Saturday night, head out to the for a women's roller derby bout between the hometown Suncoast Quad Squad and the Tri-County Rolling Militia. Admission is $12 at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the bout begins at 7:30 p.m. 

3. Blues Fest:

In November the 21st annual Sarasota Blues Festival will be held across from Ed Smith Stadium. On Saturday night at the , five local bands will be competing to play at the festival along with winning $750. The music starts at 9 p.m. and there is a $5 cover charge at the door. 

4. Caroline Rhea Stand Up:

You may know her from her days as Hilda on "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" or as a regular guest on "Hollywood Squares", and this Saturday Caroline Rhea will be at for two stand up comedy shows. Rhea performs at 7:30 and 9:45 p.m. Tickets are $19 and $23. 

5. Drag Queen Bingo

In downtown Sarasota, every Friday night at the famous , is Drag Queen Bingo. Check it out for a night of fun and laughs in downtown Sarasota. Tickets are $5 and the event starts at 6:30pm.
