Viacom Dispute: Where's MTV, Comedy Central on DirecTV?

A dispute with Viacom led to DirecTV to pull MTV, Comedy Central, Spike TV, Nickelodeon, VH1 and others off the air until the dispute is resolved.

No Daily Show, Colbert Report, Jersey Shore, Repo Games, 16 and Pregnant ...

The list goes on as DirecTV subscribers are wondering where are their favorite channels.

A dispute with Viacom led to DirecTV to pull MTV, Comedy Central, Spike TV, Nickelodeon, VH1 and others off the air until the dispute is resolved.

Here's what's going on, according to The Boston Herald:

Both sides blamed each other for the channels coming off of the satellite broadcaster on Tuesday evening. Viacom said DirecTV dropped the channels without warning. DirecTV countered that its hand was forced by Viacom.

“DirecTV executives reached out to Viacom both yesterday and today with a new proposal and a request to keep the channels on while we continued to negotiate, but never heard back, so DirecTV had to comply with their demand to take the channels down or face legal action,” the company said in a statement.

Will this result in customers paying more or leaving or just waiting until the channels come back? Tell us what you think.

Apparently July 11 is a bad day to plan to watch TV. Hearst Television and Bright House failed to reach an agreement leaving those subscribers without MOR and Orlando residents woke up to Scranton, Pa., news and weather instead of their local NBC affiliate.

Mark, this simply makes absolutely no sense at all. Matter of fact, It's 'safer' to back into a spotRead More than pulling forward. Mark, prior to backing in a spot, you already have a full visual of in front of you. Then, as you go to leave,. it's much safer to pull out, than to back out. Mark, you have this wrong pal and I'd love to see the data which lead you to believe that it's dangerous to back into a spot, versus pulling into it. I'm going to challenge you on this one Mark, and will do so when I go to court when I purposely get a ticket.

Does the convenience of reading a license plate supersede the safety of backing in and then headingRead More out?

Maybe not. I agree on the safety issue. The question needs to be, does the need of the police to beRead More able to read the plates supersede the safety concern? To be sure, there will be the usual crowd complaining about government (any government) intrusion, yada, yada, but that's the point that needs to be settled. If the police would agree that seeing the plates isn't necessary, then the entire issue would go away.
