Essential Tips for Professional Wedding Photographers

Whether you’re a beginner or a highly experienced professional wedding photographer, the below-mentioned suggestions will definitely come in handy during your next project!

Wedding Photography Tip 1: Dress For Comfort

You should aim to dress in comfortable attire while still maintaining the dress code. The most important point here is to wear comfortable footwear since professional wedding photography leads to a lot of moving around and it’s essential that you’re not adversely affected by tight clothes or biting shoes.

Wedding Photography Tip 2: Set Proper Expectations

Consulting with the client is extremely important prior to the wedding. Understand their requests completely and clear any doubts before taking on the assignment. This includes not only the project details like if album is included in the price or not, but also on any specific instructions the client might have for you. Ask for the names of their VIP guests so as not to miss clicking them at the wedding.

Wedding Photography Tip 3: Prepare in Advance

It doesn’t hurt to prepare beforehand so that you are not caught up in unwelcome surprises on the main day. Visit the wedding location at least a day before to understand how the layout is, how the lighting will be, where all the space is available and what all places you can make use of in the shoot. If you’re lucky enough to find a nice spot outside or a specially glorious corner indoors, do use it while shooting the couple.

Wedding Photography Tip 4: Have Backup

Not just for lenses and batteries, but it is also a safe option to take help of an assistant or a stand-by wedding photographer in case of emergencies. This will ensure that in case something, your image as a wedding photographer won’t be hurt.

Wedding Photography Tip 5: Keep Your Distance

Many couples get unhappy by the constantly flashing cameras in their faces. And beyond a point they become still and it destroys the charm of inexpensive wedding photographers. If you want to avoid this situation, ensure to give the couple enough space as and when possible. It’ll help them relax and indulge in normal conversations, which you can capture from a distance with a long lens.

Wedding Photography Tip 6: The Family Factor

The couple’s photographs with their near and dear one, which include siblings, old uncles and aunt and even family pets makes for a great treasure posterity. And so, aim to put additional efforts to capture the special moments of the couple with the most important people in their life.

Wedding Photography Tip 7: Capture light and natural moments

From children laughing, to the bride looking stealthily at the groom, to warm hugs being shared between the groom and his best man, there are several precious moments which end up as lovely memories later. Be aware of the natural moments around you and capture them for posterity.

Wedding Photography Tip 8: Make use of the natural environment to the fullest

Sunlight during the early mornings or late afternoons give a great glow to the pictures and should be made use of as far as possible. Also, include the outdoor locations whenever possible- ponds, lakes, gardens, or similar locations, etc. make the photographs seem pretty dreamy and romantic.

So when you are on your next project as a wedding photographer, do remember the above tips!
