Sharon Kunkel, who has two decades of journalism and nonprofit experience, has opened Wordslinger Marketing & PR, a Sarasota-based independent agency offering services including writing/editing, public relations, content marketing, social media management, strategic marketing consulting, crisis communications, and the execution of fundraising campaigns and events.

With more than a decade of marketing and fundraising experience in the local nonprofit community, Kunkel is well-equipped to fill gaps at organizations that do not have full-time marketing assistance or are faced with urgent organizational, event or program marketing needs. She is also working with local businesses to increase brand awareness through diverse channels, and community engagement through social media.

Most recently, Kunkel served as the Director of Marketing & Communications for the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. Key accomplishments there included co-leading the 2014 Season of Sharing homelessness prevention campaign to a new high of $2 million and overseeing the launch of a new website for the organization.

Kunkel is committed to delivering big-agency services and quality at a reasonable price, with a focus on personal attention and exquisite customer service.

“My key philosophy is that, regardless of the technology available and the services needed, the best marketing and fundraising efforts come down to having a great story and telling it with honesty and passion,” Kunkel said.

Kunkel is a graduate of Tufts University in Boston. The mother of two school-age boys, she enjoys volunteering extensively with her synagogue, Temple Emanu-El, and playing drums and singing with a local rock ‘n’ roll band, Version 3.0.
