New College Bell Tower Team Receives Award

The architectural firm of Renker Eich Parks in conjunction with STABIL Precast Concrete were recently awarded the 2013 Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute’s Design Awards for the Robert & Beverly Koski Bell Tower and Academic Plaza located on the campus of New College of Florida. This awards program showcases innovative ideas and demonstrates how designers continue to utilize precast concrete components to achieve sustainable and cost-effective projects. The tower was constructed by Willis A. Smith Construction in Sarasota, Florida and made possible by a generous donation from Mrs. Beverly Koski, the tower’s namesake.

The tower was designed with Beverly Koski’s vision to give the school an elegant and original monument that would reflect the educational opportunities that New College offers its students and community. After developing several design options, the architects of Renker Eich Parks chose precast concrete to achieve an innovative design at a considerable cost savings to the college. Additional durability and a maintenance free monument were also achieved with the new design.

"Architect Harmon H. Haley envisioned a creative solution to realize Beverly Koski’s vision, and Del Hight and STABIL Precast developed and executed the techniques to make that complex design a reality," said John Martin, vice president for finance and administration at New College. "They also did so while bringing the project in on budget and on time. We’re tremendously pleased with their work on this landmark of our campus."
