Steve Arvey and Tony Smith have won The Suncoast Blues Society International Blues Challenge and are on their way to Memphis to compete in the finals in January 2014. The band needs to raise funds for a Swamp Rat CD and travel expenses. Aaron Fowler will join the duo on drums and Rebecca Bird will appear as a guest singer. Tickets are $10 and will get you on the list for a copy of the new CD when it is released. The Swamp Rat's mission is to bring the Raw Delta sounds of the late 40's back to life. This sound that the band creates is called "Mississippi Delta Funk". Cigar box guitars and deep tone wailing harmonica is mixed with a percussive drum kit that Arvey calls the "Rat Trap". This is very hard edged Blues, Boogie, Swamp and Funk crafted from out of the deep south and molded in their own style.
