Tips for Newborn Baby Photography

If you are wanting to go for professional family photography (or newborn baby photography or professional maternity photography), the following ideas can prove to be very handy.

Tips for family photo shoot:

1. Dressing Up The Group
As their professional family photographer you may may suggest the family to dress similarly, or if they insist on going with their own personal styles, then ask them to wear clothes having same color tones or a neutral shade. It not only makes exposure and retouching easier, but also helps in that the photo does not seem old-fashined or appear outdated down the years.

2. Use natural light
For an effective family portrait capture the shoot either early morning or late in the afternoon. In case these slots aren’t comfortable and you are required to shoot during mid afternoon only, opt for a location that’s not exposed to direct sunlight but is either hidden from sun or inside the building.

3. Select appropriate background
A background which is uncluttered, natural and has plain colors will make sure that the group being photographed remains the centre of attention without any detractions. One moreAnother thing to remember is that there aren’t any unwanted and embarrassing things in the background. You might also want to blur the background a little so as to concentrate more on the group.

Tips for Newborn Baby Photography

1. Click Multiple Photos
You can’t expect a baby to give a perfect pose for you, so the better thing to do is to click quite a few of photos consecutively. It’ll ensure that at least a few of those numerous picures contains an excellent shot.

2. Make use of natural lighting:
As in the case of family photo shoot, the use of natural light would greatly improve professional baby photography as well. But the key is to make use of soft lighting of early morning or late evening and not the harsh afternoon sun rays.

3. Capture the smile
You could either attempt to get a playful laughter or a cute smile from the baby on your own, or ask for the parents’ help. The effort will definitely be worth it!

4. Keep it classic
Black and white photos appear classic and timeless and are a great way of photographing babies. In case going for monochrome, select a contrasting background and light in order to generate a dramatic effect.

Some quick tips for couple Maternity Photography

1. Always select the shooting location basis the client’s preference. For those who want more privacy, studios are better. But if the client does not have any such needs, then outdoor shoots can produce great end product.

2. Eliminate the chaos in the photograph by concentrating on the mother-to-be. That’s the most crucial requirement of the photograph and therefore, any detracting backgrounds or colors should be eliminated.

3. Make the lady feel comfortable and confident about her body. Pregnant women tend to get very insecure about their bodies, however, as their photographer it’s up to you to make them feel great during the shoot so that it can reflect in the pictures as well.

4. Aim to incorporate the family in the photographs wherever possible. Focusing the mother’s relation with her family and capturing the love of her husband and children adds a lot of warmth and character to the photograph.

As a maternity photographer, it’s your responsibility to make this outdoor maternity photography a memorable experience for your client.
