“Who can resist my challenge to drop one of us into the cold water, especially those with bad aim,” asked Deputy City Manager Marlon Brown, who spearheads the United Way campaign for the City.  “This is going to be a fun event for a great cause.  I hope everyone participates.”

The dunk tank event is one of several fundraisers hosted by the City of Sarasota this year to raise funds for the United Way Suncoast.  City employees contributed to the campaign last week as part of an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast.  Last year, the City of Sarasota United Way campaign team helped raise $25,000.

Through community partnerships, the United Way Suncoast provides funding for more than two dozen organizations in Sarasota County and DeSoto County.

“Through fundraising events like the dunk tank we ultimately can help struggling families achieve financial independence, help people in crisis find stability and help school children get the early start they need to be successful,” said Nancy Ostrander, Director of Donor Relations for the United Way Suncoast.  “We can change the story in many people’s lives because of our community partnerships.  We appreciate the City’s continued support of the United Way.
