10,000 Gallons of Sewage Spilled in Sarasota Neighborhood

Crews have cleaned up the spill in a roadside ditch in the Center Gate Woods community, county officials said Monday.

Crews have cleaned up a sewage spill that poured about 10,000 gallons of sewage into a canal and stormwater retention pond in the Center Gate Woods community of Sarasota, county officials said Monday.

The spill happened in a roadside ditch at 4312 Dresden Ln., according to a news release sent Monday afternoon. Crews have vacuumed the site and will apply lime to the affected area.

"There are no reports of any damage to private property," officials said in a release.

Door hangers have been distributed to residents who may have been impacted, and daily samples will be taken until coliform bacterial counts return to normal.

Signs have been posted around the affected area, and all state agencies have been notified, officials said.
