Lightning Strike Causes Fire; Power Outage

Watch the video to find out what caused a power outage at 900 houses and set a home on fire.

A lightning strike on the 4800 block of Camphor Avenue in Sarasota reportedly set one home on fire and left 900 residents without power Wednesday afternoon.

No one was injured in the blaze, which occurred around 4 p.m. just off Proctor Road, but firefighters said there was significant damage to the home.

The strike also affected the traffic light at the intersection of Proctor and Swift roads; it was shut off.

Authorities were not able to comment for certain what caused the fire until they receive a final report from the State Fire Marshall following an investigation. However, rescuers on scene said all the signs pointed to lightning.

The outage was over by 8 p.m.
