Sick Twist in Sarasota Incest Case

Another family member has been charged with capital sexual battery and incest in a case that took place within the Sarasota city limits.

Another family member has been arrested and charged in connection with the rape of a teenage girl that took place over the last several years, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

 Kyle Riley, 25, 2800 block of Courtland Street, Sarasota, was arrested around midnight on Thursday after the victim told authorities that he had forced her to have sex with him on several occasions, often picking the lock of her bedroom door with a butter knife when she wouldn’t let him in.

On July 5, Sarasota Police arrested another relative, Joshua Riley, 22, also of Courtland Street, on the same charges after the victim said he too had forcibly had sex with her.

The victim, now 14, told authorities that the abuse started around age 10, during the summer, according to a report. She told SPD detectives that Joshua started abusing after he saw Kyle having sex with her through her bedroom window.

SPD became involved after the victim confided in a friend about the alleged abuse on June 27, according to police.

During an interrogation, Joshua admitting having sex with the victim and said it started when he was eight years old, making the victim just an infant, according to the report. He said he stopped when he was about 10, according to a report.

He told authorities he hasn’t’ had sex with the victim in years, but loves the victim more than he should as a blood relative, “in a girlfriend sort of way,” the report states.

Joshua told detectives that after he saw the victim having sex with Kyle, he became jealous and confronted her about it. He said the victim confided in him and he let her cry on his shoulder, the report states.

Both men are currently in custody and are being held without bond. If convicted they could face a  sentence of life in prison.

“Children are our most precious citizens,” said Sgt. Chris Born, with the SPD crimes against children unit. “Our agency will do everything we can to protect these innocent people and arrest the perpetrators involved.”
