$25,000 in Prize Money Awarded in National Weight Loss Challenge

SARASOTA, FL (JANUARY 10, 2014) – The Orangetheory® Fitness, University Park, will help thousands of men and women transform their bodies in the first two months of 2014 during the 6-Week National Weight Loss Challenge. Orangetheory Fitness is a distinctive high-energy interval workout and the first fitness franchise to use heart-rate-monitored training. The Challenge kicks off on January 17, 2014, and offers $25,000 in cash and prizes to winners.

“We are excited to represent our studio in the National Weight Loss Challenge and help people locally transform their bodies in six weeks with Orangetheory Fitness,” said Sheri Carr, Manager, Orangetheory Fitness University Park. “This Challenge is for anyone who is more interested in results than resolutions when it comes to losing weight, getting fit, and making a healthy lifestyle a priority. We have the best one-hour workout in the country, with every detail designed to produce results based on science.”

Participants in the Challenge must attend a minimum of three 60-minute Orangetheory Fitness sessions per week, with a goal of showing the greatest improvement over the course of the contest. At the end of the 6-Week Challenge, the top female and male contestants among all participating Orangetheory Fitness studios, determined by percentage of weight loss, will be declared the national winners, each receiving $25,000 in cash and prizes. The winners from the University Park studio will be awarded $500.

The one hour, ever-changing Orangetheory Fitness workout consists of diverse components including high-energy cardiovascular and strength training using treadmills, rowing machines, suspension training, and free weights with short bursts of intense exercise. Orangetheory Fitness offers 55 classes per week for all levels, and clients cannot work out in the studio unless they are part of an existing one-hour group personal training class.

The science behind Orangetheory is known as Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC). Following cardiovascular exercise and weight training, the body continues to require oxygen at a level that exceeds oxygen requirements when the exercise began. After the session, the body will continue to burn more calories as it tries to recover from the strong bursts of activity for up to 36 hours. Clients can expect to burn 500 – 1,200 calories during their workout, and the amount of calories burned after the workout varies based on gender and body composition.
