Detert,
Holder and Steube to
Update
Members at Nov 21 Dinner
Florida lawmakers returned to
Tallahassee in late October to begin their first series of committee meetings
in anticipation of the 2014 legislative session. They face both upsides and
challenges in Florida’s post-recession economy. Early estimates anticipate a
budget surplus, making it easier to construct a $74 billion state budget, while
funding new priorities. But complicated issues loom - including Medicaid
funding and expansion, finding a middle ground on Common Core, a variety of tax
cut proposals, revamping state pension plans for new employees, overhauling
Florida’s gambling regulations and clarifying self-defense legislation. Fortunately,
Nancy Detert, Doug Holder and Greg Steube will be with us at our
November dinner to recap their initial meetings and explicate their predictions
of what is to come in the spring session.
This is an election-year
Legislative session, with Governor Scott, 3 state Cabinet members and numerous
lawmakers on the campaign trail. Make sure you are with us on November 21st
to listen - and ask the questions that concern you the most.
