Parkinson Cafe @ the Asolo Repertory Theatre

Join the Parkinson Cafe, my friend

The Parkinson Cafe, designed to provide social, cultural and intellectual interaction for people with Parkinson's disease and their care partners, will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Asolo Repertory Theatre on the first Monday in February.

Medtronix DBS will sponsor complimentary coffee at 10 a.m. on the second-floor mezzanine.

At 10:15 a.m. Parkinson Cafe Founder Lynn B. Schramek and her husband Brad, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2005, will facilitate a getting-to-know you session.

At 11 a.m. participants will be treated to a back-stage tour of the theatre, followed by lunch at noon.

The afternoon program will feature actress Carolyn Michel who will present about the magic of theatre.

Then Asolo's Alex Suczewski will highlight all the cultural opportunities that the Asolo Repertory Theatre offers the community.

This will be Sarasota's second Parkinson Cafe event.  The Parkinson Cafe @ the Ringling Museum was held the first Monday in November. A Parkinson Cafe @ the Sarasota Ballet is planned for the first Tuesday in March.

Schramek created the Parkinson Cafe in 2009 while she was living in upstate New York, after her husband Brad was diagnosed with PD at 45.  Two Parkinson Cafe series each meet monthly during the fall and winter in the Rochester, NY, area. The Schramek's relocated to Bradenton last fall.  Lynn was awarded the US trademark for the Parkinson Cafe in September 2013.

Make reservations by calling Lynn Schramek at 941.351.6281 or emailing lynn@parkinsoncafe.org.  The cost for a pre-ordered box lunch is $15.  Go to www.parkinsoncafe.org for more information.
