Photojournalist Steven Katzman’s “This Miserable Kingdom”

State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Fine
Art Gallery features the exhibit, "This Miserable Kingdom," Steven
Katzman’s photographic survey documenting the people of the Pojoaque Pueblo in
New Mexico, January 31-April 2, 2014. “I am one of the few white men who have
been allowed to document life on the Pojoaque reservation since Edward S.
Curtis spent time there in 1905,” says Katzman, explaining that his project was
approved by the Pojoaque Tribal Council. An opening reception, with the artist,
is Friday, January 31, 6-8 p.m. The reception will begin with an artist's talk,
followed by a Q&A with the audience. Special guest speaker is Jacob
Viarrial, a Pojoaque leader who served as Katzman's guide on the
reservation.  The Fine Art Gallery
is located at 5840 26th St. W. in Bradenton. Gallery hours are Mon. – Fri. 10
a.m. – 3 p.m.  The gallery is
closed Mar. 2 – 9 for spring break.  For more information, call Joe Loccisano, gallery manager, at
