Grab a lawn chair or blanket and find a shady seat in the banyan grove at Selby Gardens. It’s time for the Fall Music Series. Sundays in October, the gardens are filled with sweet melodies from area musicians and entertainers from 1 to 3 p.m.

Selby Gardens will honor veterans during the opening concert with a reduced admission price of $5. The First Brass will kickoff the music series with the “Red, White and Brass: American Salute” Oct. 6. An ensemble made up of 16 piece brass, organ and percussion musicians; First Brass has been performing together since June, 2012.  Local vocalist Sharon Scott will join the brass ensemble with patriotic and pop songs.

In collaboration with The Patterson Foundation’s Legacy of Valor program, the concert will raise awareness for Patriot Plaza, the new amphitheater at the Sarasota National Cemetery. During the show, First Brass will also collect used cell phones to donate to Cell Phones for Soldiers.

A variety of grilled entrees and beverages from Local Coffee + Tea will be available for purchase. Garden guests are encouraged to bring folding chairs and lawn blankets, but coolers are not allowed in. Tickets are free for Selby Gardens members, $5 for member guests and $17 for non-members. Veterans tickets are $5.  Admission is free for children 11 and under, but tickets are required.   For more information about the Fall Music Series and the performers, visit www.selby.org or call 941-366-5731.
