WSLR S.P.E.A.K Cafe w/ kahlil almustafa
For Black History Month and in acknowledgement of the 60th Anniversary of the Brown vs. Board of Education decision that paved the way for integration, WSLR's first S.P.E.A.K. Café will focus on "Race, Roots and Resistance". The goals of the S.P.E.A.K. Café (which stands for Song, Poetry, Expression, Art, and Knowledge) are to foster self-expression, critical thinking, meaningful conversation, and social activism. The event will start with an Open-Mic period at 7pm and our featured performer, kahlil almustafa, will take to the stage at 8pm. The event will be hosted by local performers Emmanuel Avraham (aka E-Man) and Ariel Blue, both members of the West Coast Black Theater Troupe. kahlil almustafa is known as the People’s Poet. almustafa is the 2002 Nuyorican Grand Slam Champion and the author of four books of poetry and his debut CD CounterIntelligence.
