Hitchhiking Kitten Saved by Florida Man

The 8-week-old feline hitched a ride in the underside of a truck. What that truck’s owner did to save it will blow your mind.

Would you cut open the side of your vehicle to save a trapped animal?

That’s exactly what a Vero Beach man did when he discovered his Chevy pickup purred, and not in a good way.

According to CBS 6, Errand Frazier first heard his truck purring outside his home in late May. He checked for an animal, but couldn’t find one. Since he’s a serious animal lover, Frazier left food out, along with a video camera. The next morning, the food was gone but there was nothing on the video.

Thinking nothing more of it, Frazier decided to go fishing. When he arrived at his spot, the purring started again, CBS 6 reported. That’s when Frazier grabbed sheet metal cutters and opened up the side of the truck.

The source of the purring became evident.

“I seen this little rascal peeking at me,” he told CBS 6.

The kitten, however, was stuck inside. With help from the Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County, the kitten, now named Megan, was rescued and has since been adopted, the station reported.

"You can't believe how good it feels to have helped little Megan," Frazier told the society after the rescue. "Believe me, I would chop my truck into a million pieces if that's what it took to save an animal's life."

Animal rescue stories also abound in the Tampa Bay area where numerous nonprofit agencies dedicate themselves to finding homes for stray dogs and cats. Local veterinary offices have also worked their share of rescue cases, including a notable rescue of a baby opossum in Lutz. Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies are even known to lend a hand to furry critters from time to time.
