Dog of the Week: Gypsy

Hi, I'm Gypsy, and my name fits me. I've traveled a lot in my 7 years, have many tales to tell.
I'm in foster right now, and I'm pretty happy about that. Before coming here, I was at the shelter for months, where no one looked at me. Maybe it was my fault; I was very scared by all the noise and people, and whenever strangers would look into my kennel, I would run and hide.

Now I'm so happy to be inside a home and safe, and I'm wagging my tail to tell everyone about it. I never wagged my tail at the shelter, so they all think I'm exaggerating, but I'm not. I am so happy being in a real home. Sometimes I don't want to go through a door or into a strange room. But I'm not very big, so people just pick me up and take me out the door if they need to. The more I trust the person at the other end of the leash, the easier it is for me. Honestly, the shelter life scares me. I just wish I didn't have to go back there.

Let me tell you a little about me, and maybe if you have room in your life, I could come live with you forever.

I'm not very brave. When I'm unsure I just go find a corner and wait it out. I'm resourceful, though - (that's another word for smart.) I don't bark very much at all, and I'm at that stage in life where my idea of heaven is a bed, or a couch, or anything that feels cozy and safe. I've been outside enough to know that I like inside much better. I'm not a yard dog - I'm a house dog. I don't need a lot of exercise either, just a few walks to take care of business, then back inside to rest. I like resting with my head on my trusted person's lap. I won't jump up on you or your friends, I won't chew on things I'm not supposed to. I might get along with other dogs, I don't know. I didn't like the ones at the shelter so much, but they were loud and somewhat bossy, and always wanted to run around. I'm happiest just being quiet. I'll never be friends with cats, but I could probably live with them. I've been known to eat their food, which I guess they don't like, so if you have a cat, you might have to put the cat food up high. I do love dinner time!

If you're the kind of person who can take the time to help me trust people again, please call HSSC and arrange for us to meet. I promise I'll try hard for you!
