5 Ways Companies Must Adapt to an Aging Workforce

As the world’s population continues to grow, jobs in Sarasota are entering uncharted demographic waters. It’s estimated that by 2050, more than one-fifth of the population in the United States will be over the age of 65, and thanks to anti-aging technologies like high tech joint replacements and memory enhancing drugs, this population will be healthier than ever. Evidence suggests that many of these aging workers will be able to continue working, should they choose to, into their eighties and nineties.

Unfortunately, businesses have been slow to plan for this new workforce. As more and more workers push back retirement and continue to work, businesses will have to adjust their practices and policies to accommodate them. If your older workers are thinking of continuing their employment, there are steps you can take to do just that.

Adjusting Jobs in Sarasota for Aging Workers

  • Adjust Your Attitude- Many companies see older workers as a burden, and would often prefer to recruit younger candidates. However, it’s important for you to realize exactly what these aging employees bring to the table. They have years of experience, are knowledge, are reliable, and are much more loyal than many younger employees. Your business practices should change to reflect this.
  • Be Flexible- Aging employees who want to keep working may require more flexible roles and schedules. By allowing these individuals to work part-time and telecommute, and allocating more demanding tasks to younger employees, jobs in Sarasota can reduce health costs associated with workplace accidents.
  • Offer Training- As technology advances, older employees may find it difficult to keep up. By investing in an aging worker’s future and providing them with the proper training they need to understand and use technology, your company will benefit from greater productivity and work efficiency.
  • Invest in Their Health- With Obamacare, almost everyone has health insurance now, but that doesn’t necessarily mean your employers will be healthier. Create wellness programs that will benefit both younger and older workers. Wellness programs can help your employees stay healthy by preventing illnesses and catching diseases early on.
  • Rethink Pay- Many companies are afraid to hire aging workers because they fear that their experience will make them too costly, especially when they won’t be taking on as much as they used to. While salary is generally based on the length of time with the company and experience, when an employee reaches retirement years, it may be best to bring performance and pay into closer conformity. This will ease corporate fears of overpaying for an aging worker’s salary.  more on our website.  http://hhstaffingservices.com/5-ways-companies-must-adapt-aging-workforce/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium...
