Best Careers for Empty Nesters

There comes a time in every parent’s life when children grow up, leave the house, and begin their own lives. For many parents, this can be a stressful time, but it doesn’t have to be all bad. While your children won’t be at home anymore, the time and energy you spent on them every day can now be directed toward other pursuits. For some, this might be starting a new hobby or taking an old one back up. For others, it means pursuing leisure activities there wasn’t time for the last 18 years. And for many, it means having the time and energy to pursue a new career.

If career exploration is at the top of your to-do list after becoming an empty nester, there are a few Tampa Bay jobs that might be perfect for you. Let’s take a look.

Tampa Bay Jobs for Empty Nesters

  • Personal Financial Advisor- Instead of sitting at home, counting the time on your hands now that the kids are out of the house, consider instead working with Sarasota employment agencies to find a position as a personal financial advisor. These individuals generally spend much of their time discussing investments, retirement, and financial goals with clients. These individuals tend to be older and more likely to trust an empty nester with their money, making it a fantastic fit those whose kids have flown the coop.
  • Teacher- If you have a bachelor’s degree, becoming a teacher may be a fantastic option. You’ll create lesson plans, work with students, and grade assignments. This type of career is perfect for empty nesters because you still have plenty of energy and working with children will help alleviate some of the stress that comes with saying goodbye to your own kids.
  • Health Care Administrator- Were you a nurse or even a doctor before you became a parent? If you turned in your stethoscope for diapers, consider getting back into this field as an administrator. You can work in many different types of medical facilities, using the organizational and management skills you learned as a parent to be successful as an administrator.
  • Public Relations Specialist- As a parent, taking the time to stress the importance of communication skills to your children, verbally, in reading, and in writing, was important. As a PR specialist, you can practice these skills you’ve been teaching since they first learned how to talk. With this job, you’ll write press releases, assist clients in speaking to the public, and develop strategies for corporations and companies. If you already have a bachelor’s degree, this career will be easy to step into, especially if the degree was related to communications, English, business, or journalism.
  • Management Consultant- Breaking up fights and teaching compromise every day for the last 18 years allowed you to really hone your problem-solving skills. Put them to good use by using Sarasota employment agencies to find a position as a management consultant. These Tampa Bay jobs work well for empty nesters, especially those who have at least some experience in business and a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business administration.

Watching your children grow up and leave the house doesn’t have to be a sad occasion; it can be an opportunity for you to pursue a new career.
