Autopilot is the stage of a conversation when you’ve run out of new and exciting things to discuss, so you reach for a safe topic that you don’t really have to think about. Often, these topics are negative. They look something like this: the economy, bad drivers, the price of gas, the cost of food, the cost of medical care, –you get the idea.

Dwelling on negativity does nothing more than strengthen and solidify more negativity in your life. Let’s say you’re looking for a job. Do you really want to talk to ten people at next Tuesday’s dinner party and tell every single one of them that finding a job is impossible, times are tough, and your education probably doesn’t even matter in today’s job market? No! All that’s going to do is continue to feed, and therefore solidify those negative belief systems in your mind. The words you speak and the things you choose to dwell on are forming your future. Have you ever heard the saying, “Every cloud has a silver lining?” Well it’s true. Whether the job market is up or down, you can prosper by just keeping an eye out for the silver lining. Maybe your skill set needs to move to a slightly different niche. If you aren’t looking for the opportunities, you may not find them. Think about what industries are thriving right now. How can you target your skills toward that market? Sometimes we’re just a small adjustment from living far above what we thought we were capable of. Adjustments and fine tuning are just a part of life. It may be time for yours.

You could be part of such a crowded job market that every odd is stacked against you seven ways to Sunday, but guess what?
