What about Exercise on an Electric Bike? Is it Counter Intuitive or Not?

Whose riding Electric bikes today and why?

Why Electric bikes?

When someone comes up to me, whether I am a at a show or our store in Sarasota, Fla., invariably the question comes up, "What about exercise?"

I immediately point to the 6- or 7-gear Shimano shifter, depending on whether you are looking at the Pedego Beach Cruiser or the City Commuter and tell them that you can pedal as much as you want, and therein lies the key to an electric bike, the universal motto being, "Pedal....or not."

You see, you have an option. We joke to our customers and say the first 25 miles are on us, the rest are on you.

The majority of our customers are baby boomers, but by no means are all other groups or types of customers the exception. Many from Generation X and the subsequent generations have purchased an electric bike and for as many a varied reason as there are, well, people.

Whether someone has not been on a bike for a while and feels they need a little boost to get their confidence back, or there is some physical limitation or even the loss of a license, people young and old climb upon an electric bike and take off, and all of them have one thing in common—they are smiling.

At the end of the day, electric bikes are a load of fun. In fact, Pedegos logo is a loopy, "Hello Fun." I can tell you that electric bikes or bicycles are an alternative responsible mode of transportation and reduce your carbon footprint and are in line with green proponents, or that is a realistic way to get to work without sweating and even that it promotes exercise and in some cases it helps in rehabilitating injuries, but in the end, you will be smiling when you speed on down the road, grinning from ear to ear and literally flying like the wind.

And remember with Halloween around, its mighty scary without a Pedego Electric Bike.

Love the Halloween photo! I actually have a serious question for you, too. Are there three-wheeled electric bikes? Selling to baby boomers means selling to people who might well have developed balance issues that come with aging. I do hope Pinellas County continues to improve its bike paths. It is unfortunate to say but safety is really more of an issue when using a bike than needing an electric motor.

Mark, this simply makes absolutely no sense at all. Matter of fact, It's 'safer' to back into a spotRead More than pulling forward. Mark, prior to backing in a spot, you already have a full visual of in front of you. Then, as you go to leave,. it's much safer to pull out, than to back out. Mark, you have this wrong pal and I'd love to see the data which lead you to believe that it's dangerous to back into a spot, versus pulling into it. I'm going to challenge you on this one Mark, and will do so when I go to court when I purposely get a ticket.

Does the convenience of reading a license plate supersede the safety of backing in and then headingRead More out?

Maybe not. I agree on the safety issue. The question needs to be, does the need of the police to beRead More able to read the plates supersede the safety concern? To be sure, there will be the usual crowd complaining about government (any government) intrusion, yada, yada, but that's the point that needs to be settled. If the police would agree that seeing the plates isn't necessary, then the entire issue would go away.
