5 Things: Ringling Walmart Plan To Be Examined By Committee

Five Things: Ringling Blvd Walmart | Ringling Picnic Moves | Vacationer at Ringling Underground | Ringling International Arts Festival | Drug Turn-In Results

1. The proposed Walmart Supercenter at Ringling Shopping Center will be up for review at 9 a.m. Wednesday before the Development Review Committee.

The plan calls for a 97,779-square-foot Walmart by demolishing the current shopping center, and the project already meets the zoning standards.

The 24-hour store would have groceries, a pharmacy, general merchandise and more. The Development Review Committee reviews technical specifications of the proposed plan and if approved, would be sent to the Planning Board.

2. Those Ringling Picnic food trucks are no long on Ringling Boulevard. And well, it's no longer Ringling Picnic either. It's Suncoast Food Trucks. The popular food truck rally made the announcement Monday on its Facebook page.

The new location is Washington Boulevard and Adams Lane behind the UPS Store with parking on Morrill Street. They'll be open for lunch Tuesday through Friday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a "Munchie Hour" from 5 to 7 p.m. on Fridays.

3. Keeping with the Ringling theme, we're going to the Ringling Museum for Ringling Underground from 8 to 11 p.m. Thursday for some killer music. The big draw will be Vacationer—the side project of Kenny Vasoli from The Starting Line. Other bands include The Wallies and DJ David Curran. Tons of emerging artists will be on hand and the museum's exhibits will be available for viewing. It's free for college students with ID and $10 for adults.

4. The Ringling International Arts Festival is fast approaching. The festival runs from Oct. 10 to 13 in Sarasota and Bradenton and tickets start at $10.

You can check out dance groups, dance films, a theater company, bands and more. Get tickets and find more at ringlingartsfestival.org.

5. Going back to Ringling Boulevard where the Sheriff's Office is headquartered, the agency reported that Saturday's prescription drug turn-in event resulted in 46 pounds of drugs turned in to be safely disposed. Sounds like a success.
